Shea Butter Comparison

Here we offer you some facts that we hope will help you make an informed decision in buying the best products for your health.

Shea Nuts

Are there differences among Shea butters?

There are substantial differences among commercially available Shea butters. You can purchase organic, unrefined Shea butter, refined Shea butter and processed Shea butter.

Organic unrefined Shea butter is the only type we carry, because it is the most beneficial one.

Unrefined Organic Shea Butter

Unrefined Organic Shea Butter is Shea butter in its pure, all natural state without any solvents  or additives. It has a soft texture, off white to pale yellow color and has a mild nutty scent which will last only minutes after being applied to skin or hair.

Refined Organic Shea Butter

Refined Shea Butter has been chemically altered to remove the natural scent. It is bleached white in color and retains only a small portion of its natural healing properties. As a result refined Shea Butter is more expensive than unrefined but it is less beneficial. Some people prefer refined Shea Butter because it does not have the natural Shea scent, but it also does not have all the beneficial properties.

Processed Shea Butter

Processed Shea Butter is the most common and the cheapest type because solvents are added. The percentage of Shea butter in these products is usually very low. Many large cosmetic companies have started adding Shea butter to their beauty products including moisturizers, anti-aging, stretch marks and hair products. These products fall under the category of processed Shea butter.
